Syracuse Summer Shimmer

Ongoing Photo Series

The series searches for bits of sunlight in one of the cloudiest and most precipitated cities in the United States, as well as subtle hints of people during the quiet season of a college town. I moved to Central New York in 2025 after growing up in subtropical Taiwan and spending five years in dry Los Angeles. “I’ve never seen snow” became an easy yet surprising conversation starter as people compared Syracuse’s persistent gloom with the everlasting sunshine I was accustomed to. The transience of sunlight in this city, to me, mirrors the passage of time in everyday life, returning me to photography’s defining power to preserve ephemeral shimmers and remember beautiful moments.
